Keep Your Website Refreshed: Gaining Search Engine Traction

Maybe the most common question we get when we launch a new site is "Why can't I find my site on Google." The short answer is, Google probably hasn't indexed it yet. Most major search engines will crawl your site within 4-6 weeks of the time it is submitted to the search engine for review. Even when it it finally does get indexed and, despite your best SEO efforts, it may still be pages back in the search engine's results.

You may think the launch of the website is the end of the project. The reality is, a successful website will continue to grow and build traffic over time. The best way to gain traction quickly is to establish routine updates that can add relevant content to your site and extend your presence on the web.

When a search engine sees that you are making regular updates to your site, it will check back more frequently to see what updates you have made. The benefit is that your newest content will always be available for search and the added content will increase your keyword density, causing your relevance to go up.

So many websites are left stagnant or abandoned, it can sometimes be difficult to tell if your business is still in business. When this happens, your website ceases to benefit you. Keeping your content updated will show your users (and potential clients) that your site (and business) is alive. What's more, updated content will give your users a reason to check back and see what's new on your site--creating more traffic.

It is very difficult to get your site on top of the search engines overnight, and updating your site often is just on piece of the puzzle. However, it is a very important piece and, if you continue to do it over time, you'll start to see momentum build with growing traffic and your better search engine results. And that's the goal, right?
